Australian jazz tour opens in Brisbane
American jazz great Ron Carter will open his Australian tour in the Concert Hall, QPAC on June 9.
Carter has carved out a career spanning more than 45 years performing with the likes of Miles Davis to BB King, Sarah Vaughn, Dexter Gordon, James Brown, Sonny Rollins and Stan Getz.
An accomplished academic and author, Carter can boast more than 2,500 recording credits to his name, making the double-bass legend one of the most prolific instrumentalists in his field.
In the early 1960s, Carter performed throughout the United States in nightclubs and concert halls with Eric Dolphy, Jaki Byard, and Wes Montgomery, and then toured Europe with Cannonball Adderley. He was a member of Miles Davis’s now classic quintet from 1963 to 1968, along with Herbie Hancock, Tony Williams and Wayne Shorter.

Countertenor Andreas Scholl returns to Australia in March for his third national tour with Musica Viva. Accompanied by Baroque specialists Tamar Halperin on harpsichord, cellist Daniel Yeadon and lutenit Tommie Andersson, Scholl will perform Purcell’s Dido’s Lament (from Dido and Aeneas) a piece usually performed by a female singer, as well as Handel cantatas.
